There are lots of ways you can get involved with Fair Trade in York, from simply buying Fair Trade tea and coffee to getting involved with our Forum.
If you’d like to visit Fair Trade outlets around York, you can download our Fairly Traded trail to follow. It covers a number of Fair Trade cafés and shops, and includes questions to answer if you are following the trail with children. It’s a great way to explore York City Centre and get to know some of the independent retailers.
You can also attend our events – keep an eye on our calendar for upcoming meetings and other events that are happening. If you’d like to be part of our mailing list, email email@example.com and we’ll happily keep you up-to-date on our current projects and plans.
We’d always love to see you at one of our meetings – they usually happen on the third Monday of the month at the City of York Council offices, from 6 – 8pm. If you have any questions about attending one of our meetings, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Finally, we are delighted to say that we written a book! Fair’s Fair – Inspiring stories of Fair Trade champions from the 18th century to the present day is the vision of Forum members Kathryn Tissiman and Margot Brown, and the result of much hard work by them with help from many others. There is a long history, in many different countries of the world, of people who have helped to improve the lives of producers by selling only goods which had been freely produced. You can read about 10 of these courageous and visionary ‘champions’ in this book.
It is available in various shops including the Spurriergate Centre, Fairer World and Shared Earth in York; Aroma cafe in Haxby.
“It’s an interesting and encouraging book, showing the impact for good an individual can have. I am impressed by the work you have done at the York Fair Trade Forum to put the book together” Anne T
